On Thursday, November 21, 2024, President-elect Donald Trump announced Pam Bondi as his replacement for Matt Gaetz. Following Gaetz’s withdrawal from consideration for attorney general, Trump announced Bondi, a former Florida attorney general.
In a statement, Trump said, “I am proud to announce former Attorney General of the Great State of Florida, Pam Bondi, as our next Attorney General of the United States.” Trump further added that Bondi was smart and tough, and he was certain she would perform her duties to perfection.
Following Trump’s nomination, Gaetz went online to share his opinion on Bondi, whom he had nothing but praise for. He described Bondi as a stellar selection, a proven litigator, an inspiring leader, and a champion for all.
According to Trump’s social media post, he referenced Bondi’s tenure, which prioritized fighting the drug crisis and limiting immigration. Bondi became Florida’s first female attorney general after she served as an assistant state attorney in Hillsborough County for over 18 years.
She was initially elected as Florida’s attorney general in 2010 before winning her reelection in 2014, holding the position for eight years.

Subsequently, in 2024, during one of Trump’s most recent campaigns, Bondi served as his representative as he was absent. Bondi, if approved, would lead the Justice Department’s 100,000 staff and supervise investigative agencies like the DEA and FBI.
As a result of her nomination, Bondi could take over as head of a department that has spent years investigating and prosecuting Trump. Bondi, if confirmed, will become the second woman to hold the attorney general’s office since Loretta Lynch under the Obama administration.
Todd Blanche, who served as a defense lawyer for Trump, is set to become Bondi’s chief deputy. Blanche has had an interesting career as a seasoned federal prosecutor and corporate defense attorney.
