Barely a week into her tragic accident, the body of “Top Chef Masters” star Naomi Pomeroy has been recovered. Pomeroy was suspected dead after a fatal inner tubing accident.
Naomi Pomeroy Body Found
On Wednesday, July 17, 2024, the office of the Benton County Sheriff announced the discovery of a body on Oregon’s Willamette River. The report stated that Pomeroy’s body had been discovered by a group of people who had gone canoeing on the morning of July 17, 2024. Subsequently after putting a call to the sheriff’s office, marine deputies with the sheriff’s arrived at the location moments later.
After a brief search, they found her body in shallow bedrock with about two feet of water near the middle of the river. According to a press release, the body was found half a mile north of Hyak Park between Corvallis and Albany. Additionally, the release claimed to have transfer her body to funeral house after they had informed her family about the recovery.

On July 13, 2024, 49 year old Pomeroy and her husband, Kyle Webster, went tubing when they went underwater. According to reports, a third person was with them when the accident happened. However, according to Toby Bottorff, Benton County Patrol Lieutenant, after Pomeroy went underwater, she didn’t come up.

Although Webster and the third individual went underwater, they survived. Webster and the third person were both wearing life jackets while Pomeroy wasn’t. Consequently, after the accident occurred the police declared her dead and issuing a body recovery search. Despite the initial river search, they could not recover her body until after the call.

Pomeroy is survived by her husband, Webster, and her 23 year old daughter, August. August was Pomeroy’s death from her time married to Michael Hebb. On Tuesday, July 16, 2024, Webster gave an interview to the New York Times.
According to Webster, it was a branch in the water that caused the deadly incident. Additionally, Webster spoke about Pomeroy’s demeanor in the months leading to her death. Webster said “Naomi was pretty advanced in her understanding of this cool ride we’re on.” “She was more at peace in the last six months than she ever was before. She said she had done everything she was put here to do.”

Naomi Pomeroy, born November 30, 1974, was an American chef and restaurateur. Pomeroy won the James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef Northwest in 2014 after being named one of America’s Top 10 Best New Chefs by Food & Wine magazine in 2009.

In 1999, Pomeroy entered the culinary world at the age of 24 with Ripe Catering and appeared on Bravo’s Top Chef Masters in 2011. The significant growth of Oregon’s food scene can be traced back to the impacts made by Pomeroy. Pomeroy has established or operated a number of eateries in the Portland region.
She appeared as a judge on Bobby’s Triple Threat, Knife Fight, and Top Chef, and competed on Top Chef Masters and Iron Chef. Subsequently, in 2013, Pomeroy and Webster launched a cocktail bar, named Expatriate. In 2016, Pomeroy released her debut cookbook, titled Taste & Technique
Additionally, Pomeroy opened a coffee shop she named Beast. However, as a result of COVID 19 lockdown in 2020, Beast was such down but Pomeroy had an idea. Converting the space formerly utilized by Beast, she created a new venture called Ripe Cooperative.
The venture was a marketplace that sold meal boxes to customers to go and prepare at home, and was in operation until 2022. Amid the pandemic, she co-founded the Independent Restaurant Coalition, which pushed for federal aid for U.S. restaurants and staff. Additionally, Pomeroy founded Cornet Custard, a frozen custard restaurant, in June 2024.

A Condolences Message
Taking to the X platform on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, the television reality cooking show posted a condolences. They wrote “The Bravo and Top Chef family send our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Chef Naomi Pomeroy. Naomi was a powerhouse chef who made an indelible mark on the culinary industry.”
The owner of the restaurant near Pomeroy’s Expatriate, Heather Wallberg, gave an interview in which told Expatriate to her if they needed any help. Wallberg and Pomeroy have colleague in the Portland food scene since at least 2013. Additionally, Wallberg stated that Pomeroy made the Portland food scene into what it has become. She also stated that Pomeroy’s death reminds her of life’s fragility.
