American reality TV star Angela Simmons took to social media to apologize after suffering backlash following her BET appearance. The reality star was seen in some pictures holding a clutch bag that was shaped like a gun at the awards ceremony.
On Sunday, June 30, 2024, the BET had its award show, in which Simmons wore an emerald green purse shaped like a hand pistol. Simmons is the daughter of Run DMC’s Joseph “Rev Run” Simmons. As pictures of her surfaced, people quickly questioned the reality star’s choice of accessories.
They criticized the 36-year-old star for posing with a purse that symbolized gun violence on the red carpet. In one of the pictures, she stood with her boyfriend, Yo Gotti, and pointed the purse directly at the camera lens.
Consequently, one fan has written that her choice of bag was a terrible one, with another fan adding that it wasn’t a good look with all the gun violence in the country. A user asked if the violence caused by guns influenced her choice of bag.

Subsequently, after more comments like this, Simmons took to her Instagram account to apologize. The Instagram apology came on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, two days after the awards show.
Simmons wrote that she had initially thought that the bag’s design was cute and one-of-a-kind. However, she admitted that her choice of accessory to compliment her looks was terrible. She added that she regrets that she chose something inappropriate and insensitive, despite her experience with gun violence.

She said that she understood the anguish and pain that her actions caused people who had been affected by gun violence. Reflecting on her life, she said she lost her partner and father of her child to gun violence. Additionally, she saw the negative impact his death had on the Southeast Queens community.
In 2018, Sutton Joseph Tennyson Simmons’s former fiancé was shot in his home in Atlanta. Simmons referenced her collaboration with Erica Ford to start programs that will help reduce gun violence. She said that gun violence is a disease that has taken many lives, especially for young people and black men.

She ended her statement by saying that it was a mistake that does not define her or her commitment, and she apologized to anyone hurt or offended.
Simmons had recently spoken about the moment she had to inform a 3-year-old boy that his father was dead. According to Simmons, her kid laid his head on her chest and told her he was sad after she told him. Simmons is now in a relationship with rapper Yo Gotti.
