Legendary singer and actress Dionne Warwick took a jab at rappers, The Weeknd and Chance The Rapper over their questionable stage names.
In a series of thought-provoking tweets, Hollywood veteran Dionne Warwick poked fun at rappers Chance The Rapper and The Weeknd over their stage names.
The 80-year-old singer’s tweets stirred a rampage on social media, resulting in a hilarious exchange between the three celebrities. Amid her trolling escapade, the legend also extended warm regards to singer Taylor Swift.
DIONNE TROLLS CHANCE THE RAPPER
Warwick began by taking a jab at Chance The Rapper, sharing her thoughts about his name. She questioned the star’s inclusion of “The Rapper” in his name when he was obviously a rapper. Warwick shared:
“Hi @ Chancetherapper. If you are obviously a rapper, why did you put it in your stage name? I cannot stop thinking about this.”
The songstress went on to tease that she was adopting the name, “Dionne The Singer,” attracting hilarious comments from fans.
CHANCE THE RAPPER’S REACTION
One of the comments came from Chance The Rapper, who was the target of the hilarious tweet. The 27-year-old rapper offered an unexpected response, which portrayed how much he revered the songstress. He voiced his disbelief, saying he was “still freaking out” that Dionne Warwick knew who he was.
Chance, whose real name is Chancelor Bennett, also stressed how amazing it felt to be acknowledged by the music legend. In response, Warwick, who admitted earlier to enjoying the rapper’s new single, “Holy,” suggested they did a rap collaboration.
DIONNE WARWICK TEASES THE WEEKND
After seemingly having a field day poking fun at the “Holy” crooner, Warwick went for 30-year-old rapper, The Weeknd. The music legend questioned the rapper’s misspelling of “weekend,” saying:
“The Weeknd is next. Why? It’s not even spelled correctly? @theweeknd.”
Going further, Warwick threatened to come for any entertainer with the word, “The” included in their name. The Weekend appeared to embrace the icon’s subtle tease just like Chance, as he tweeted a while later that getting roasted by Dionne Warwick made his day.
THE MUCH-NEEDED COMIC RELIEF
True to his words, Warwick’s hilarious tweet about The Weeknd couldn’t have come at a better time for the rapper, who experienced his fair share of controversy these past weeks.
It can be recalled that The Weekend became the center of attention weeks ago when he failed to land a spot in the 2021 Grammy nominations list.
Many accused the Grammys of being biased and corrupt for ousting the star’s hit song, “Blinding Lights,” considered widely as the biggest hit of the year.
Whether or not The Weeknd made the list, being recognized by one of the legendary entertainers of all time proved beyond doubt that he was indeed a great singer.
