John F. Kennedy’s grandniece, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, donned her late grandmother’s wedding dress at her wedding in October.
Eunice Kennedy Shriver, granddaughter of the legendary philanthropist Eunice Kennedy Shriver, whom she was named after, paid tribute to her late grandmother at her nuptials.
The newlywed graced her wedding ceremony in an old Dior wedding dress which belonged to the late philanthropist. The symbolic gesture garnered approval from other members of the Kennedy clan while also bringing back seven decades of memories.
Professional photographer KT Merry shared a picture of the bride in the glamorous wedding gown, referring to the ceremony as enchanting and intimate. She also sent odes to the newlywed for honoring her grandmother in the 67-year-old dress.
In another post from the wedding, which showed Eunice Kennedy seated dreamily at the fully decorated venue, the pro photographer captioned:
“Certainly one of the most beautiful and special gowns I have ever had the honor of photographing. This celebration was a stunning reminder of how magnificent and meaningful an intimate wedding can be.”
The intimate ceremony took place at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Miami. Close relatives witnessed as Eunice Kennedy tied the knot with her soulmate, Michael “Mikey” Serafin Garcia.
During an interview with Vogue, the bride explained she originally intended to throw a more glamorous ceremony to mark her big day. However, she trimmed the guest list from the planned 200 people to only immediate family, rounding it off to 32.
Going further, she recounted the daunting process of restoring the gown, which had become “as delicate as tissue paper” due to age. It also sported a few holes, but the subtle tribute was worth it.
With help from Miami Ever After, the bride transformed the dress into something she could work with. Speaking on the significance of the wedding dress, she said:
“My grandmother wore it at her wedding to my grandfather on May 23, 1953. And 67 years later, I wore it to marry Mikey.”
Michael Garcia and Eunice Kennedy Shriver exchanged marriage vows nearly three weeks ago, in an intimate Miami ceremony held on October 17.
However, the wedding received vast publicity after its November publication in Vogue Magazine. Following the event, relatives of the newlyweds shared congratulatory messages to the couple on social media.
Eunice’s mom, Anthony Shriver, expressed the joy she felt over witnessing her daughter’s marriage to “a great man” via an emotional social media post.
The new bride’s joy knew no bounds as she stepped into another phase of her life with her soul mate. Although the path ahead held many uncertainties, she embraced it with a simple promise of “forever.”
