“Dancing With The Stars” pro Cheryl Burke opened up about her difficult yet rewarding journey to sobriety during an exclusive interview.
Like most victims of alcoholism, “DWTS” star Cheryl Burke’s adoption of the habit was circumstantial. However, the 36-year-old dancer overcame her alcoholism and managed to achieve sobriety.
In a recent interview on “Good Morning America,” Burke opened up about her struggles with alcoholism and how she earned her freedom two years ago.
She explained to interviewers how she went out of control and turned into a “party girl” following her move to Los Angeles. The habits of partying eventually morphed into an insatiable thirst for alcohol.
Having witnessed her late father overcome his alcoholism, Burke understood the dangers of alcohol addiction. That prompted her decision to give up alcohol and attain sobriety. She noted:
“I don’t know if it’s genetic, but you know, it definitely runs in the family. And I didn’t want to fall down that slippery slope.”
Eventually, the dancer commenced her tough battle through months of therapy and meditation. Surrounding herself with people of the same values also facilitated her victory.
Notably, one of those people was her husband, Matthew Lawrence. The two became engaged during her time struggling with addiction.
The 40-year-old filled her with joy and the tendency to appreciate life even more.
Admittedly, Lawrence played a huge part in aiding her recovery process. The 36-year-old never shies away from acknowledging his role in her journey through life.
She explained to interviewers the extent of his influence in her recovery, and other endeavors she’d undertaken. The star divulged:
“He is just my rock. I don’t know where I would be without him.”
This is not the first time Burke would gush about how much Lawrence meant to her. As most may recall, Cheryl Burke tied the knot with Matthew Lawrence in May last year.
The pair sealed their union in an intimate ceremony at the Fairmont Grand del Mar, San Diego. The marriage marked the beginning of their lives together.
Days before their marriage, Burke granted an interview where she disclosed that her to-be husband brought out the best in her. In addition to helping her overcome unpleasant habits, the 40-year-old filled her with joy and the tendency to appreciate life even more.
Since their union, Lawrence and Burke have proven to be the perfect couple who undoubtedly complement each other.
