Actress and singer Kelly Clarkson divorced her husband of seven years, Brandon Blackstock, in June 2020. Despite having filed for the divorce, Clarkson maintained that she never saw their separation coming.

KELLY CLARKSON NEVER ANTICIPATED HER DIVORCE
Months after filing a divorce from Blackstock, Clarkson went candid about the divorce on “The Kelly Clarkson Show.” During the premiere of the show’s second season in September 2020, the mother-of-two disclosed how the divorce made her year a terrible one. She noted:
“2020 has brought a lot of change also to my personal life. Definitely didn’t see anything coming that came.”
Knowing how difficult the divorce had been on her and her fragile heart, she admittedly felt worse imagining the impact on her kids’ “little hearts.”
Clarkson also admitted that divorce was never easy for anyone. Being from a divorced family herself, just like her husband, she knew the kids always ended up suffering the most.
WHAT LED TO KELLY CLARKSON AND BRANDON BLACKSTOCK’S DIVORCE?
The end of Kelly Clarkson’s marriage brought about the pressing question of what led to the unexpected divorce. After the news of their split broke out, various sources speculated that the couple’s work schedules contributed to breaking them apart.
While Clarkson served as the host on her show, “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” from 2019, her husband focused on managing his clients. As a result of their tasking schedules and careers, the two were always on the go, seldom having time to enjoy each other’s company.
Notably, their issues became worse while the couple quarantined together during the 2020 coronavirus pandemic. During the period, Clarkson hosted her show from their Montana home, further straining their lives as working parents.
A source explained that the couple worked hard in their respective careers, making it nearly impossible to enjoy each other. Furthermore, having kids running around also stole away part of their downtime, which otherwise would have been spent bonding as a couple.
WHAT BRANDON BLACKSTOCK HAD TO SAY ABOUT THEIR DIVORCE
Kelly Clarkson’s husband has also reiterated his stance on their divorce. Days after the divorce filing, Brandon responded to the petition with his own filings. The 43-year-old talent manager sought joint physical and legal custody of their kids.
However, contrary to Clarkson’s petition, which requested the court to enforce their prenuptial agreement and deny her husband spousal support, Blackstock checked “other” on the spousal support. He also listed “reserved” on his petition.
Clarkson served her husband the divorce papers on June 4, 2020, citing irreconcilable differences. She also requested joint custody of their two children, Remington and River Rose.
It appears the estranged couple agrees on something, at least, which was, being there together for their kids. Hopefully, that would serve as a common ground for keeping their friendship intact.
