Florida’s Gov. Ron DeSantis seems to be finally out of the GOP presidential race. He was billed to appear on CNN and NBC morning shows on Sunday. However, the former GOP presidential contender canceled his TV appearance.
A few hours later, DeSantis announced his decision to step aside from the GOP primaries. As part of the announcement indicating his step down from the presidential race, DeSantis also endorsed his fellow GOP contender, Donald Trump.
The NBC crew did not foresee DeSantis’s step down. When announcing the cancellation of the Governor’s appearance on their morning show, NBC’s Kristen Walker said nothing about anyone dropping out of the campaign.
Walker wrote in an X post from Saturday evening, “Gov. Ron DeSantis has pulled out of his #MTP appearance tomorrow morning due to what a person familiar says is a last-minute schedule change. Per his campaign, he will now hold an event in New Hampshire tomorrow evening. He is currently campaigning in South Carolina.”

However, the tables turned utterly when Gov. DeSantis officially declared that he was stopping his campaigns and presidential aspirations. He posted a video of his official address on X. In the video, DeSantis said, “I can’t ask our supporters to volunteer their time and donate their resources if we don’t have a clear path to victory. It’s clear to me that a majority of Republican primary voters want to give Donald Trump another chance.”
Interestingly, the International Churchill Society does not seem to give a hoot about DeSantis’s aspirations. Instead, they called out a fake quote used by DeSantis in his speech. DeSantis used an inspiring two-liner during his speech, which he attributed to Sir Winston Churchill.
Before stepping aside from the presidential campaigns, DeSantis was looking forward to the New Hampshire primaries. He was hoping to make of it an opportunity for a notable rebound from trailing GOP candidates Nikki Haley and Donald Trump.

DeSantis was there last week, trying to convince South Carolina locals to give him a chance. During that visit, DeSantis told South Carolina’s voters his intentions for the country, if allowed to fly the GOP flag, at the presidential elections.
He said, “I’m asking for your support as we get into this primary next month. I’ll be a candidate that will be able to bring our party together up and down the ballot, just like I did in Florida.”
CNN correspondents initially suggested that the South Carolina primaries of February would seal DeSantis’s fate. However, the Governor decided to tell himself the hard truth before then.

Likewise, suggestions were made on air at CNN long before DeSantis’s official step down that the Trump campaign train had been looking forward to that announcement.
DeSantis was indeed a top contender in the GOP primaries. However, analysts suggest he started falling behind after his woeful performance at the Iowa caucus. Interestingly, despite the many indictments and court cases trailing Donald Trump, he is still leading on the GOP popularity polls.
