It is a new year. But old troubles are not far behind, at least for Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga. On Monday, January 1, 2024, cops confirmed that Greene was the victim of another “swatting” incident.
According to the police, it happened at her home in Georgia. Greene took to X to reveal it was the 8th time it’s happened. She said it occurred on Christmas Day with her family there.
“Swatting” happens when a random person falsely reports a crime in progress to draw police to a specific location. That’s precisely what happened, according to Major Rodney Bailey of the police department in Rome, Georgia.
He said the call came from someone based in Rome, New York. The stranger called the suicide hotline, claiming that he shot his girlfriend at Greene’s address in Georgia while threatening to kill himself next.

Acting promptly, Police quickly contacted Greene’s local security liaison to inform the congresswoman’s team about the call. Her security team let the officers know all was well and they didn’t need to respond to her home, saving the cops a trip to her abode.
Department spokesperson Kelly Madden says police canceled their response en route to Greene’s home.
“My local police are the GREATEST and shouldn’t have to deal with this. I appreciate them so much, and my family and I are in joyous spirits celebrating the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ!” Greene’s X post read.

It is not the first time Greene has had to face swatting incidents. In 2023, there were false reports of shootings happening outside her home, which is located about 70 miles northwest of Atlanta.
Police investigated those incidents in person and determined that they were false reports. Greene represents Georgia’s 14th Congressional District in the northwestern part of the state, covering the cities of Rome, Dalton, and Calhoun. However, she is not the only Republican facing such incidents.
In a separate incident Monday, Republican Rep. Brandon Williams of New York revealed that his home was also swatted. According to him, state and local police “left with homemade cookies and spiced nuts!”

New York State Police said Tuesday that the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office was investigating the incident.
Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck said that law enforcement responded Monday afternoon after receiving a “false” report from a stranger about a shooting at Williams’ address. According to him, the sheriff’s office is working with U.S. Capitol Police to determine the call’s origins.
