Hollywood icons Chrishell Stause And Justin Hartley were once happily married. However, their union ended in a messy divorce that gave way to lots of drama and scandals.
Years after Justin Hartley filed for divorce from his ex-wife Chrishell Stause, the world hasn’t gotten over their days as enviable Hollywood sweethearts. Perhaps, this is due to the numerous unanswered questions raised by their split.
Notably, court documents listed the couple’s date of separation as July 2020, four months before the November filing. That date is widely disputed, as until news of their divorce went viral, the two kept appearing as a couple at public events, all loved up.
Additionally, Hartley’s move to marry their mutual friend and actress Sofia Pernas barely months after the split further raised questions. Many wondered if “The Young And The Restless” star had something to do with the couple’s split. Allegations of infidelity on Hartley’s part also surfaced, fueling that assertion.
While Stause admittedly felt hurt for losing the man she loved in that way, the star has since moved on with her life, enduring at least two more relationships and splits afterward. The Netflix personality has also aired tidbits about their marriage and divorce on her show “Selling Sunset,” something Hartley reportedly frowned upon.
From the actress’ admission though, it seems Stause is in a better place than she has ever been, while her former husband Justin Hartley is undoubtedly enjoying his life of marital bliss with his new wife Sofia Pernas. In honor of their newfound peace after a bitter-sweet journey, let’s take a look back at their once flourishing relationship.
The Onset Of Their Romance
Chrishell Stause and Justin Hartley first met in the noughties, while the former was working alongside the actor’s ex-wife Lindsay Hartley on the set of “All My Children.” However, they did not commence their romance until much later, as Hartley was happily married at the time.
Years later, their paths crossed again thanks to a mutual friend who set them up following the “This Is Us” star’s divorce. That first date happened in 2013. Hartley once recalled how they got together at a concert and talked all night, instantly hitting it off.
After a fun night, he drove her home and made a point of ringing her up the next day. Chrishell also admitted to knowing he was the one after that night, even texting her friend to confirm she’d found him. Thus, their relationship commenced.
Chrishell Stause and Justin Hartley went public with their relationship in January 2014, making their red carpet debut as a couple at the fifth annual Unbridled Eve Derby party in LA.
Their Engagement And Marriage
After dating for three years, Hartley finally proposed to the “Days Of Our Lives” alum in July 2016, and she said yes. Taking to Instagram at the time, the 40-year old broke the news to fans, sharing glimpses of the engagement band on social media.
Two months later, they hit the red carpet as a proud couple, attending Entertainment Weekly’s pre-Emmy’s bash in Los Angeles. Stause was proud to flash her engagement ring while posing beside her beau on the red carpet.
About one year later, the duo did their vow recitals in front of friends and families gathered at the Calamigos Ranch in Malibu to celebrate them.
Following the ceremony held on October 28, 2017, Stause gushed about her wedding in an interview, saying it exceeded anything she could have imagined. She also divulged how thrilled she was to officially become Mrs. Hartley.
To commemorate their union, visited multiple locations in November 2017 for their honeymoon. Opening up about this plan to news outlets, the two said their goal was going on as many honeymoons as possible. While they never confirmed the various destinations, they did hint it involved lots of hard-partying, safely.
Two Years In Love
In October 2018, Chrishell Stause and Justin Hartley celebrated their first anniversary as a married couple, taking to social media to dish out sweet tributes to each other. Stause gushed about her love for her husband who made her the “happiest girl in the house of blues’”
Hartley also gushed about the “Selling Sunset” star, referring to her as his best friend and the best wife ever. He also made a proposal to the actress, asking her to spend 300 million more anniversaries with him.
The duo spent the months that followed giving the public more reasons to envy their romance. They bought their first home together in April 2019, with the Netflix personality referring to the modern farmhouse in Encino, Los Angeles as her dream home.
The pair also went on a romantic getaway to Hawaii in June 2019, accompanied by Hartley’s daughter, Isabella Hartley, whom he shares with Lindsay. On October 28, 2019, the duo marked their second wedding anniversary.
The Shocking Divorce
Barely a month after their second anniversary, Justin Hartley shocked the world with news of his divorce from Chrishell Stause. The actor filed for divorce on November 22, 2019, citing irreconcilable differences. He listed their date of separation as July 8, 2019.
This came as a shocker as he famously shared a touching loved-up birthday tribute to Stause on July 21, about two weeks after the supposed separation date. In the post, he referred to the television personality as a rare gem, before wishing them many more years of love and happiness.
Stause claimed she had no idea of their separation until he texted her in November that he already filed for divorce, just 45 minutes before leaking the story to the press.
While that was certainly a bitter ending to a six-year journey, things only became more heated in the months that followed. Hartley went public with his romance with soap star Sofia Pernas, who was also a friend of Stause’s.
The court finalized the divorce of the former lovebirds in February 2021, and barely three months later, Hartley tied the knot with Pernas.
Admittedly hurt, the 40-year-old willed herself to move on as well, kicking off a relationship with professional dancer Keo Motsepe, whom she met on “Dancing With The Stars.”
The relationship ended months later and the actress moved on to her “Selling Sunset” co-star Jason Oppenheim. But that too was short-lived.
These days, Chrishell Stause remains focused on her work while keeping her dating options open in an attempt to find love again. Meanwhile, Hartley seems happier than ever in his new marriage, with millions of fans anxious to see them expand their family.
